<p>Cette année 2013 voit le 10ème anniversaire du METALCAMP en Slovénie à Tolmin, mais désormais ce sera sous le nom de METALDAYS. Même lieu, même configuration, nous ne serons donc pas dépaysés pendant cinq jours dans cet endroit magique pour un festival métal particulier. Il fait chaud, le soleil nous accompagnera durant cette petite semaine sauf pour une partie du Mercredi après-midi où la grosse pluie d’orage viendra durant quelques heures rafraîchir les nombreux festivaliers. Avant de prendre du bon gros son dans les « cages à miel », une visite à la plage des lieux au bord des rivières Soca et Tolminska, aux eaux vert émeraude est de rigueur, une boisson houblonnée (où pas) à la main. Six musiciens sur scène comme Iron Maiden, mais la comparaison s’arrête là. Leur power/speed metal des 80’s est de bonne facture tout de même, ils n’inventent rien mais ne gâchent rien non plus. Les kangourous de Melbourne ont déjà ouvert pour de grosses pointures comme Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax et Machine Head. Les riffs sont bien tranchants, la rythmique implacable, les vocaux arrachés, tout baigne dans ce bon vieux Thrash qui nous décape les conduits auditifs. Leur hard-rock/sleaze metal n’est pas sans rappeler pour les plus anciens les débuts de Judas Priest. Mais les effluves d’un Skid Row et des Guns sont présentes en filigrane. Ca joue fort, ça joue bien, et que dire de la présence scénique du groupe ? Leur énergie est communicative et l’ambiance devant la grande scène est palpable. Ce groupe Allemand qui tient son nom d’un titre d’ AC/DC est en pleine ascension avec déjà trois albums au compteur et des prestations scéniques époustouflantes d’énergie et de charisme comme celle de cet après-midi sous le soleil brûlant de Tolmin. Les Suédois font maintenant partie d’un certain Thrash/death mélodique apparenté à l’école dite de « Göteborg » avec des envolées plus progressives ajoutée à leur menu. Leur neuvième album (déjà !), « The Living Infinite » représente bien leur démarche musicale actuelle avec un Death énergique couplé à des parties mélodiques plus marquées et voix claires bien dosées. Et sur scène cela passe bien même si le frontman Bjorn « Speed » Strid est rouge au visage et semble prêt à éclater face au soleil qui plombe la Mainstage. Bon concert en somme avec le retour à la guitare de David Andersson. Et c’est l’arrivée sur scène d’ ENSIFERUM. Le quintette Finlandais est très attendu il me semble. Leur Folk/metal mélodique attire donc toujours autant les foules. Et nous ne serons pas déçus par les Vikings qui continuent leur route dans une niche folk plus mélodique que les autres groupes du style. Aujourd’hui, le mélange de titres agressifs d’antan et de titres plus posés actuels nous satisfait pleinement. Le côté épique dégagé par la troupe fait mouche encore une fois. Excellent tout simplement. Le combo Israélien s’est fait remarqué dernièrement en ouvrant pour la tournée de SEPULTURA. Au menu du Thrash violent mâtiné de punk. La sauce prend bien et les compositions de leur premier album de 2012 « Anthems Of The Damned » passent bien l’épreuve du live. Alors, en live Overkill fait du Overkill et le fait bien. Il y a les inconditionnels de la formation et ceux qui ont du mal à supporter la voix criarde de Bobby. Abstraction faite de ce « détail », ça passe bien pour ma part en concert. Les death-métalleux vétérans de Birmingham en Angleterre vont me régaler tout simplement avec leur métal-de-la-mort old- school, du « true » death-métal incomparable comme pourrait l’être celui de Bolt Thrower. D’ailleurs une histoire commune aux deux groupes est à signaler de même que le premier « grogneur » de Benediction fut le bien connu Barney de Napalm Death. Mais revenons-en à la prestation de ce soir à Tolmin des « brontosaures » british. Dave Hunt frontman en titre depuis 15 ans possède l’organe vocal idéal au style et derrière lui les guitaristes Darren Brookes et Peter Rew lâchent les riffs qui tuent. Le duo basse-batterie assure les lourdeurs, les dérapages malsains, et vous savez quoi ? Après avoir prit connaissance des dernières chroniques live concernant le groupe, je m’attendais au pire concernant les Suédois. Bon, je n’oublie pas que ceux de Göteborg formés en 1990 ont été les pionniers avec Dark Tranquillity et At The Gates d’un certain style de death mélodique ayant fait « école » dans le monde entier, c’est sûr. Mais aujourd’hui, après les succès d’antan, les millions de CDs vendus, que reste-t-il de l’aura du groupe ? Après le départ du principal guitariste Jesper Stromblad, les Suédois semblait avoir entamé la descente aux enfers. Cela se ressent aujourd’hui naturellement avec les titres bien sûr de leur dernier opus « pop-death » intitulé « Sounds Of A Playgroun Fading », mais aussi avec une présence sur les planches qui se révèle « douloureuse ». En effet, la voix d’Anders était ce soir un peu limite et heureusement que les soli guitaristiques éclairaient un peu un show mitigé, c’est dit.
