Spade : Salut, The Burning Dogma. Tout d'abord, merci d'avoir pris le temps de répondre à quelques questions pour Pavillon 666 ! Cet été, c'était intense pour vous : votre dernier album "Over and Over and One After The Other" est sorti à la fin du mois de juin, suivi par un concert au Luppolo Festival. Comment vous sentez-vous, après une période aussi chargée qu'enthousiasmante ?

Maurizio : Salut ! C'est Maurizio de The Burning Dogma ! C'est un réel plaisir de répondre à cette interview et on remercie Pavillon pour cette opportunité.

Oui, en effet, c'était assez chargé depuis mars 2025 ! Nous avons commencé par sortir notre premier single issu de l'album, intitulé "Forecast". Puis, on a travaillé sur la promo, filmé des vidéos et finalisé les enregistrements CD. Ensuite, nous avons été à l'affiche du Luppolo In Rock. On ne s'est pas arrêté et on s'est investi professionnellement dans tous les aspects de l'histoire. Désormais, on est plus motivés que jamais : nouveaux morceaux, programmation d'événements etc etc.

S : Parlons un peu du groupe. Pouvez-vous nous raconter un peu l'évolution de The Burning Dogma depuis ses débuts dans les années 2000 ? Comment votre son et votre vision artistique ont-ils évolué à travers les années ?

M : Je suis le dernier membre originel du groupe et en faisant le bilan de tout ce qu'il s'est passé, je dirais nous avons gagné en expérience et en sagesse à travers les aléas de la vie, bons ou mauvais. Mais nous avons toujours eu en tête notre mission : éviter les clichés et essayer de trouver une vision toute personnelle dans le paysage metal extrême.

S : J'ai récémment écrit une chronique au sujet de votre nouvel album et je dois dire, découvrir votre musique était une réelle surprise. Elle comporte des arrangements quasi-fantômatiques, entre death metal, gothic metal et même gothic rock (surtout dans le morceau "Hundred Years"). Est-ce que j'ai bien saisi votre identité sonore ?

M : Je dois admettre qu'en lisant votre review je me suis dit : "cette fille a tellement bien compris notre vision que j'ai l'impression de la connaître depuis des années" (Rires). Donc, on voudrait vraiment te remercier pour cette belle chronique. Oui en effet, tu as su déterrer les racines profondes de notre musique. Bien joué !

S : Est-ce que vous pouvez nous raconter le processus créatif derrière cet album ? Comment l'écriture et l'enregistrement se sont-ils déroulés ?

M : Honnêtement, depuis que TBD existe, j'ai toujours été le producteur et compositeur principal. J'ai commencé à écrire des morceaux qui ont été intégrés à l'album dès 2020. La pandémie du COVID-19 a été une opportunité pour développer tout cela. Les évolutions de line-up ont contribué aussi à travailler là-dessus.

Maintenant, le nouveau line-up du groupe inclut de très bons musiciens, qui s'investissent vraiment dans le processus créatif. Cela veut aussi dire que je ne suis pas le seul à proposer de nouveaux riffs ou morceaux. Nous avons mis en commun nos inspirations dans un projet musical unique dont chaque membre a enregistré une partie.

S : Les paroles, en effet, semblent profondément ancrées dans la littérature gothique, avec des champs lexicaux qui rappellent ceux d'Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley ou Bram Stoker (des noms qui plaisent aux âmes sombres). Est-ce que leurs mots ont inspiré vos propres écrits ?

M : Oui, bien sûr ces grands auteurs ont eu une grande influence sur l'écosystème et les atmosphères que nous voulions créer. Même si nous ne souhaitions pas que ce soit un copié-collé d'oeuvres particulières, nos paroles sont en effet un écho de ces récits du XIXème siècle.

S : D'une manière générale, qu'est-ce que vous souhaitez exprimer à travers votre musique ? Et de quoi êtes vous le plus fiers au sujet de votre dernier album ? En quoi diffère-t-il de vos précédents opus, que ce soit en termes de son ou d'émotion ?

M : J'ai toujours pensé que la musique était la seule catharsis possible pour mon âme. Et sans souffrance, aucun bon morceau ne peut être écrit. En tenant compte de ces observations, je pense que nous essayons d'exprimer tous les sentiments négatifs qui nous assaillent pour les transformer en son, façonné en quelque chose de plus positif. "Over and Over and One After The Other" est un grand pas en avant, que ce soit en termes de technique, d'écriture et de production. La puissance des émotions exprimées ici accompagnent les auditeurs dans un voyage complexe mais agréable, je pense.

S : Quels sont les futurs projets de TBD ? Avez-vous prévu des concerts, une tournée ou êtes-vous déjà en train de travailler sur un nouvel album ? On a envie de connaître la suite !

M : On est actuellement en train de travailler sur une belle surprise pour nos fans : la musique ne s'arrête jamais, donc nous non plus. Dans quelques mois, je pourrais sortir quelque chose de vraiment inattendu. Restez dans le coin, vous ne le regretterez pas ! D'un autre côté, nous avons prévu d'autres lives, dans l'optique de participer à des événéments internationaux. On veut diffuser la musique de The Burning Dogma partout.

M : Nous espérons venir en France et partager avec vous notre musique. Nos fans français ont beaucoup d'importance pour nous, car nous pensons que nous avons la même approche culturelle.

Spade : Hi The Burning Dogma, First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for Pavillon 666! This summer has been quite intense for you: your latest album "Over and Over and One After The Other" was released at the end of June, followed by a performance at the Luppolo Festival. How are you feeling now, after such a busy and exciting period?

Maurizio : Hello!! This is Maurizio from The Burning Dogma!! It’s a real pleasure to be invited to this interview and we’re really grateful to Pavillon 666. Well yes, it’s been a pretty hard time since march 2025 when we started to release our first new single ‘Forecast’. You know, preparing promotional triggers on social networks, recording videos, finalizing cd printing and so on till we hit the stage in Luppolo in Rock. We’ve been relentless and very committed to be professional on all the sides of this story. Now we’re still on fire: new songs, planning for live events and so on.

S : Let’s talk a bit about the band. Could you walk us through the evolution of The Burning Dogma since its beginnings in the early 2000s? How has your sound and artistic vision developed over the years?

M : I’m the last former member from original line up and looking back at that days i can say the evolution of our music just followed maturity and seniorship throughout all the events whether bad or good they were. But having always in mind our mission: avoiding cliche and try to find a personal vision in extreme metal landscape.

S : I recently wrote a review of your new album, and I must say, discovering your music was a real surprise: ghostly arrangements, a touch of black romanticism and melancholia, sitting somewhere between death metal, gothic metal, and even gothic rock ; especially in the track “Hundred Years.” How do you feel about this interpretation? Does it reflect your intentions?

M : I must admit that reading your review I spoke to myself: ‘well the guy nailed it so perfectly that it seems like we have known each other for years’. So we’d really like to thank you for such pleasant words. Probably you were able to recognize the most inner roots and influences of our music. Great!!

S : Could you tell us more about the creative process behind this album? How did everything start? How do you usually approach songwriting and recording?

M : Honestly, since the Dogma very beginning I was always the main composer and producer. I started to write down songs that became later ‘Over & Over’ in 2020. Pandemic outbreak just dramatically switch off the chance to bring everything on record for years. Line up chances intercurred in that time period did the rest.

Now , the current lineup is formed by really skilled musicians, fully involved and committed also in the music creation processes. This also means that i’m not anymore the only one in charge to propose new riffs or songs. We just collapse inspiration into a single music project with all the parts recorded in singularity by each Dogma member until we reach a critical condition that leads to a complete brand new song.

S : Speaking of the lyrics, they seem deeply rooted in the gothic literary tradition, with clear nods to authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, or Bram Stoker (names that haunt the hearts of many dark souls indeed). Are these writers a direct influence for you? Have their works shaped your lyrical or conceptual approach?

M : Well for sure those great writers have a huge influence on inspiring the whole Dogma ecosystem and atmospheres. Of course we’re not interested on directly ‘steal’ or referral to any recognizable opus but the lyrics concept has always a romantic and decadent feeling that somehow could be linked to ‘800 goth writings.

S : More broadly, what do you aim to express through your music? And looking at this latest album, what are you most proud of? How does it differ from your previous releases, both musically and emotionally?

M : I have always thought that music is the only valid catharsis method that could work on my soul. And without inner suffering no good music could be written. Taking in account these sentences, I can say that we try to express all the bad feelings to transform them into musical vibes shaped in positive forms. ‘Over & Over’ is a huge step forward for us both technically and about songwriting/production: we’re damn proud about how it sounds through the whole songs. The strength of the emotions expressed there reaches out clearly the listeners bring them into a complex but pleasant journey, in my opinion.

S : What can we expect from The Burning Dogma in the near future? Any upcoming shows, tours, or maybe even new material already in the works? We’d love to know what’s next!

M : We’re currently working on some spicy surprise for our fans: the music never stops, so neither we do. In few months I will be able to release something really unexpected. Stay tuned , you wont regret it. From other hand we’re planning shows looking forward to reach international venues. We wanna spread Dogma tunes everywhere.

S : That brings us to the end of this interview. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us. As a final word, what would you like to say to your French fans?

M : We’re struggling by the desire to come to France and experience together with you our music. French fans are a huge and main audience for us, cause we are pretty sure that our way to make music could easily find a proper welcome to them for cultural reasons and approaches.
